   Heelan was born in Andover (Massachusetts) to Kimball Heelan, actress and Lowell Public Schools teacher, and Kevin Heelan playwright. Conor is her older brother. His father is a professional dramatist who has been an instructor at the Phillips Andover Academy teacher since 1983. Heelan was a student at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts, and then spent an entire year at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Heelan moved to the University of Southern California.
